The Strange Familiar
Maha Afzal
I’m Maha Afzal, a 25-year-old writer and MPhil scholar in English Literature. For as long as I can remember, words have been my refuge; an invisible thread tying together thoughts, feelings, and the unspoken. Studying literature didn’t just sharpen my critical lens, it also awakened something deeper—a desire to not only read stories but to write them, to give shape to the silences and subtleties we often carry within.
This piece is my first published work, and in many ways, it feels like the beginning of a long-awaited conversation with the world. I write to understand, to reflect, and sometimes just to bridge the distance—and I hope my words can offer the same to others. As I continue this journey, I remain driven by a quiet but persistent urge to craft narratives that linger, resonate, and perhaps leave behind a small echo of truth.
